Z FAQs 2022

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • What does Limmud mean? Limmud comes from the Hebrew word meaning “to learn”.
  • What should I expect at Limmud? A retreat in Jewish space and time. Like all local Limmuds, Limmud Bay Area is a unique experience gathering people from all walks of life and all Jewish backgrounds. You can expect to attend some of the following: a series of lectures, workshops, discussions, nature walks, text-study, art projects, and performances. Limmud is uniquely planned, produced and enjoyed by a network of Bay Area “volunticipators”. This is your invitation to open yourself to Jewish experiences you’ve never imagined. An opportunity to explore your connection to Jewish ideas, innovations and tradition. Meet people who share your curiosity and fundamental commitment. Relax, reflect, and celebrate.
  • What is the timing of the conference? Check-in starts on Sunday, September 4 at 9am at the San Ramon Marriott. First session is a Plenary, it begins at 10am. The day ends with “Late Night Limmud”, whenever we are ready to turn off the lights. Monday starts with breakfast at 7:30am, last session ends at 5pm.
  • Where do I stay during the conference? Beautiful San Ramon Marriott is our home-away-from-home. Don’t forget to book your room directly with the Marriott (separate from your Conference Registration) and take advantage of the $149/night group rate with the code of ‘Limmud Conference Sep2022’ – while the supplies last.
  • Can I commute to the conference on Sunday and Monday? Yes. However, while San Ramon is within an easy drive for many participants, there is much to be said about staying on site overnight.
  • Where will the sessions take place? The sessions will be predominately in the conference rooms or outdoors at the Marriott. Other venues include the “Library” at the Roundhouse, or lakeside at Bishop Ranch. Dinner on Monday will be held at the San Ramon City Center. All venues are within an easy walk from the Marriott, or can be reached by a short ride in a car or a bicycle.
  • Will there be a program for kids? Not this year. Families may choose to plan a mini-retreat in San Ramon for the two days of the conference, but they will need to plan kids activities and supervision on their own. For some families, a ‘Shared Ticket’ could allow alternating – one of the adults spending time with the kids while another is at a session.
  • How does a Zoom Limmud-From-Home ticket work? We’ve all been in many Zoom sessions by now. Ours are just like that – your ticket will get you a link to a selection of sessions which will be broadcasted from the conference throughout the two days of the conference. While we will not be able to make all sessions available online, many will. The online option is being made available in recognition of the unusual circumstances which limit the size of the in-person conference, and in an effort to include as many community members as possible.
  • How does a ‘Shared Ticket’ work? Two adults may register for one ‘Shared Ticket’ to be split between them (each session and meal could be accessed by one of the two people on the ticket). One badge will be issued in both names. Additional meals may be available for purchase – send a request to contact@limmudbayarea.org.
  • What are the dietary considerations? During registration you may indicate the following dietary requirements/restrictions: Kosher or Vegetarian. For those who have food allergies or gluten-intolerance, there will be gluten-free options and ingredients lists at the conference.
  • Is Limmud Green? Bal Tashchit (coming from the Hebrew words “do not destroy”) is a Jewish concept that directs our practices at Limmud. This concept or value reminds us at all stages of our planning to be environmentally mindful in our decisions and consider prioritizing sustainability efforts wherever possible. From our educational sessions, to our program partners as well as the choice of venue and vendors, we make proactive choices that foster a solid balance between ecological sustainability and Jewish learning.
  • Is the lodging ADA Compliant? Yes, we make proactive choices that intend to foster a sense of welcoming and accessibility to all. B’tselem Elohim (coming from the Hebrew words “created in the image of the divine”) is a Jewish concept that directs our practices at Limmud. This concept or value reminds us at all stages of our planning to be mindful in our decisions and consider prioritizing accessibility and diversity efforts wherever possible.
